AS8218 NEO-ASN Zayo Europe

The European backbone Autonomous System of Zayo Infrastructure France SA

(NEO-ASN), the former Neo Telecoms, a French carrier Zayo acquired and

folded into its European network. It is a genuine IP-transit and wholesale

network, not an eyeball ISP.

What it's used for

• IP transit, wavelengths, dark fibre and Ethernet transport for carriers, content networks, hosting providers and large enterprises across France and wider Europe.
• Reverse DNS on the announced space is entirely backbone router naming of the form xe-N-N-N.terN.SITE.par.core.as8218.eu and vlN.aeN.tcrN.gs.par.core.as8218.eu, with site codes for Paris data centres including Equinix. No subscriber or customer-pool naming appears at all.

Notable

• The peering count is the giveaway: thousands of observed BGP neighbours against a modest address inventory. That ratio only occurs on a transit and peering network, where the value is in the routes carried, not the addresses held.
• The NEO-ASN handle outlived the Neo Telecoms brand. The AS is Zayo's today, and the router rDNS still advertises the number itself (as8218.eu).
• It announces a mix of ranges from several RIPE blocks, but unlike an address-leasing shape these all carry the operator's own coherent router rDNS.
