AS9825 SDNP-BD-AS Sustainable Development Networking Program

AS9825 (SDNP-BD-AS) belongs to the Sustainable Development Networking Program in Dhaka, Bangladesh. SDNP began as a UNDP initiative — part of a global programme to get developing-country institutions online — and after donor funding ended it was continued by the Sustainable Development Networking Foundation (SDNF), a registered not-for-profit that today runs ISP and data-centre services and operates BDIX, the Bangladesh Internet Exchange.

What it's used for

RIS sees 9 IPv4 prefixes carrying 2,304 addresses — nine individual /24s — with no IPv6 and 4 BGP neighbours. The blocks span both the organisation's original 202.59.208.0–202.59.211.0 allocation and newer APNIC 103.x and 163.61.x space, all from the same registry, which reads as a small operator that has picked up address space in /24 increments over a long life rather than as one growth event. Two thousand addresses and four upstreams is a small network by any measure: this AS carries the foundation's own hosting, colocation customers and connected institutions, not a subscriber base. Its significance in the Bangladeshi internet comes from the exchange it operates, not from the size of this address holding.

Notable

• The AS is small, but the organisation behind it is structurally important: BDIX is where much of Bangladesh's domestic traffic is exchanged, and keeping that traffic local is the whole point of the exchange.
• The UNDP origin explains the unusual name — SDNP nodes were set up in a number of developing countries under the same programme, so the handle is not unique to Bangladesh in spirit, only in this allocation.
• No IPv6 is announced.
