AS8926 MOLDTELECOM-AS Moldtelecom Autonomous System

MOLDTELECOM-AS is the network of Moldtelecom SA, Moldova's state-owned

incumbent telecom operator and by a wide margin the country's largest network. It

is the single AS through which most of Moldova's internet reaches the world.

What it's used for

• Retail fixed broadband and IPTV (FTTH and DSL), business connectivity, and domestic IP transit for other Moldovan networks.
• Roughly 483,000 IPv4 addresses across ~111 prefixes plus seven IPv6 blocks — an enormous inventory for a country of about 2.5 million people, which is what being the incumbent looks like.

Notable

• rDNS is uniform across essentially the whole inventory: host-static-IP-DASHED.moldtelecom.md, with occasional named business hosts breaking the pattern. The naming is generated per address rather than per service, so it does not separate consumer from business space — but the sheer volume of it, and the absence of any other large Moldovan eyeball AS, puts the country's household broadband here.
• It is also a transit network: around fifty downstream ASNs sit behind it, including most of the smaller Moldovan providers. Eyeball and transit in one AS is typical of a small-country incumbent.

Interesting

• Moldtelecom also runs the Unité mobile brand, so mobile as well as fixed subscriber traffic can appear on this space. Treat the addresses as Moldovan end-users generally, rather than assuming any one access technology.
