AS8865 ASN-BIAMAN-EDU MSK BIAMAN

BIAMAN (ASN-BIAMAN-EDU) — the Białystok metropolitan academic network,

operated by Politechnika Białostocka (Białystok University of Technology). The

handle's MSK is miejska sieć komputerowa, Polish for "city computer network".

What it's used for

• Campus and inter-institutional connectivity for the universities, colleges and research institutes of Białystok and the surrounding Podlaskie region. The rDNS lands squarely on academic hosts — aragorn.wb.pb.edu.pl (the university's own faculty machines), www.al.edu.pl, and the network's operational infrastructure at dns.man.bialystok.pl.
• Beyond the campuses it also serves regional public bodies: one sampled host is wms1.wios.bialystok.pl, the provincial environmental-protection inspectorate. Polish MANs traditionally carry local government and cultural institutions alongside their academic members.

Notable

• This is one of the roughly twenty Polish metropolitan area networks that together form the national academic backbone, PIONIER. Each MAN is run by a local host institution — here the technical university — rather than by a separate corporate entity, which is why the AS is registered to the Politechnika itself.
• Institutional address space: around 22,000 IPv4 addresses in a handful of large, contiguous blocks (82.139.128.0/19, 212.33.64.0/19). There are no subscriber pools and only a small number of BGP neighbours, as befits a network whose upstream is the national research backbone rather than the commercial market.
