AS8323 CYFRONET-AS2 Metropolitan Area Network Autonomous System

CYFRONET-AS2 is the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH in Kraków, the

computing centre of the AGH University of Science and Technology. This AS carries the

Kraków metropolitan academic network (cyfro.net), which connects the city's

universities, institutes and research facilities.

What it's used for

• The Kraków MAN: campus and institute connectivity for AGH and the other Kraków higher-education and research institutions, aggregated by Cyfronet and handed up to Poland's national research network.
• Large legacy academic blocks including 195.150.0.0/17, 195.150.128.0/18 and 193.193.64.0/19, carved into assignments for member institutions.
• Cyfronet is also a national supercomputing centre, so this network carries research computing traffic as well as ordinary campus access.

Notable

• Institutional address space. Roughly two dozen BGP neighbours sit behind and beside it, and reverse DNS in the range lands on member networks and regional organisations rather than on Cyfronet itself. An IP here usually identifies a Kraków institution connected through the MAN.
• Backbone interfaces carry cyfro.net naming, which is the honest marker of the operator's own infrastructure.

Interesting

• Cyfronet is one of the oldest computing centres in Poland and runs the country's best-known academic supercomputers. The metropolitan network and the HPC centre share the same organisation, which is why an "education" AS number this low is also a serious research-computing network.
