NETHINKS-AS is NETHINKS GmbH, an owner-operated ICT provider in **Fulda,

Hesse**. It began in 1996 as regio.NET, a regional ISP, and now runs its own

backbone and datacentres in Fulda, Nuremberg and Frankfurt alongside a network and

IT services business.

What it's used for

• Business internet access and managed connectivity. Reverse DNS shows both an access side (HOSTID.dsl.nethinks.com, ppp-NN-SITE.nethinks.com) and a large set of customer records on entirely unrelated German domains: a supermarket group's Citrix gateway, a publisher's firewall, corporate mail servers.
• Datacentre and colocation services out of its own facilities, sold together with network design and monitoring work.
• The AS also carries several large legacy blocks including 212.218.0.0/16, whose RIPE netname is still DE-REGIO-980409, a direct fossil of the company's original regio.NET identity.

Notable

• Business network, not an eyeball ISP. The DSL and PPP naming is real, but the addresses behind it resolve to companies, not households. The bulk of the identifiable space is static assignments to enterprises in the Fulda region.
• The address count is inflated by a 149.218.0.0/17 registered to an unrelated German networking-equipment maker and merely maintained by NETHINKS. That is customer space, not the provider's own, so do not attribute it to NETHINKS.

Interesting

• The company deliberately stopped being "just an ISP" around 2004, when it renamed from regio.NET and moved into network engineering with its own datacentre. The AS still reflects both halves of that history in its addressing.
