CTNET is Enecom, Inc., the telecoms and systems subsidiary of the Chugoku Electric Power group, covering the Chugoku region of western Japan (Hiroshima, Okayama, Shimane, Tottori, Yamaguchi). The handle preserves its founding name, Chugoku Telecommunication Network, from 1992.

What it's used for

• About 135,000 addresses across nineteen prefixes, plus 2001:2a8::/32. Enecom sells the MEGA EGG consumer fibre service and also resells access over NTT's FLET'S plant.
• Reverse DNS is dominated by sequentially numbered subscriber pools on regional ISP and cable-TV brands the company serves: mysNNNNNNNNNNNN.pionet.ne.jp, NNN-NN-NNN-N.okuizumo.ne.jp, NNNNNN.torichu.ne.jp. That is access-network addressing, not backbone or hosting.

Notable

• An eyeball network. A useful detail for geolocation: much of the space sits behind small local operators — municipal and community cable-TV internet services in the Chugoku prefectures — for whom Enecom supplies the addresses and the upstream. The user is a household in rural Shimane or Tottori, even where the AS name says "electric power company".

Interesting

• Enecom reached its present shape by absorption: the 1992 leased-line carrier merged with a Chugoku Electric IT services firm in 2003, and it also inherited the customer base of Urban Internet, an independent ISP from the dial-up era.
