NAV Communications SRL is a Romanian hosting and data-centre operator based in

Bucharest, running under the handle NAV. It has been in business since the late

1990s and operates its own facility rather than reselling someone else's.

What it's used for

• Colocation, dedicated servers and cloud/VPS hosting out of the company's own Bucharest data centre.
• Serving thousands of hosted domains across the address space, plus DDoS scrubbing for its customers.

Notable

• The inventory reads exactly like a hosting network: several dozen scattered /24s drawn from many different ranges, a large fan of separate IPv6 /32s, and essentially no reverse DNS on the sampled addresses. Servers get PTRs when a customer bothers to set one; access networks get them by default.
• It buys transit from several upstreams and peers at Romanian and international exchanges — normal for a content/hosting network that needs to be reachable cheaply from everywhere.

Interesting

• Romania has an unusually dense population of independent hosting companies relative to its size, and NAV is one of the long-lived ones — it predates most of the country's current hosting market.
