AS3701 LINK-OREGON

LINK-OREGON is the statewide research and education network for Oregon. It grew

out of NERO — the Network for Education and Research in Oregon — which the

University of Oregon operated for decades, and which Link Oregon absorbed on its

formation in 2019.

What it's used for

• Middle-mile connectivity for Oregon's universities, colleges, K-12 systems, public agencies, tribal organizations, and non-profits.
• Research networking: connecting Oregon institutions onward to national research networks and to peering points in Seattle, Boise, and the Bay Area.

Notable

• Link Oregon is a non-profit consortium of Oregon's four research universities (Oregon State, University of Oregon, OHSU, and Portland State) together with the state government.
• The RIR record still names the University of Oregon, a holdover from the NERO era — the handle changed to LINK-OREGON but the registration lineage is the same network.
• This is R&E address space: institutions and campuses, not consumer broadband.

Interesting

• NERO began as a research project into high-speed wide-area networking for Oregon education, which is how a state R&E network ended up holding an AS number this low.
