AS10063 KMA-AS Korea Meteorological Administration

KMA-AS-KR is the Korea Meteorological Administration, the national weather service. It runs South Korea's forecasting, observation and warning systems, its supercomputing centre, and the COMS/GEO-KOMPSAT weather-satellite ground segment. AS10063 is its network.

What it's used for

Weather data in and out. The AS announces 10 IPv4 prefixes totalling 2,560 addresses and no IPv6 — nine consecutive-ish /24s from 203.247.66.0 through 203.247.101.0 plus one from 210.107.255.0. The sampled reverse DNS is decisive: 203.247.66.133 resolves to missdp.kma.go.kr, first-party naming inside the agency's own .go.kr zone. .go.kr is the Korean government's restricted second-level domain, so this is not merely a plausible attribution — it is the holder identifying itself. A national met service is a heavy data exporter: model output, radar and satellite imagery, and observation feeds exchanged with the WMO's Global Telecommunication System and with peer agencies abroad.

A government network, plainly. The routing shape supports the reading rather than contradicting it: 2,560 addresses against four observed BGP neighbours describes an agency multihoming across a few upstreams for resilience — sensible for a body that must publish typhoon and heavy-rain warnings when other infrastructure is under stress. It sells no connectivity; a carrier would show hundreds of adjacencies.

Interesting

Four neighbours is on the high side for an end-site of this size in this range, where most Korean agencies show two. That is consistent with an operator whose availability requirements are genuinely public-safety grade rather than merely administrative.
