AS9981 SAERONET-AS-KR Saero Network Service LTD

AS9981 (SAERONET-AS-KR) is registered to Saero Network Service LTD, the network arm of Saeronet (새로넷), a regional cable operator in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, whose franchise areas include Gumi, Gimcheon, Sangju, Chilgok, Seongju, Gunwi and Goryeong. Saeronet was absorbed into the Hyundai HCN cable group, which was itself acquired by KT in 2021, so the AS sits inside a larger cable group while retaining its own registration.

What it's used for

Residential broadband access. RIS observes 80 IPv4 prefixes carrying 136,192 addresses, no IPv6, and one BGP neighbour. That pairing is the whole argument. A hundred and thirty-six thousand addresses is a serious pool, the kind of inventory a wholesale carrier or a hoster would have, but a single BGP adjacency rules both out: a network with one upstream sells transit to nobody and peers with nobody. It is buying connectivity and delivering the space downward to its own subscribers.

The prefix structure corroborates it. A handful of very large aggregates (119.56.128.0/17, then /18s such as 114.129.192.0/18, 117.20.192.0/18, 59.151.192.0/18, 113.59.128.0/18, 60.253.0.0/18 and 122.199.64.0/18) are carved into dozens of /21 deaggregates. That is an access network splitting pools per headend or per region, not an enterprise or a hosting estate, which would have no reason to advertise both a covering block and its parts.

Notable

• Some of the space it originates is registered to the HCN parent rather than to Saeronet itself, consistent with a cable group where the registrant and the originating AS are different legal entities in the same family.
• No IPv6 is announced, so subscribers here are IPv4-only at the routing layer.
