AS9929 CUII CHINA UNICOM Industrial Internet Backbone

AS9929 (CUII) is held by China Unicom, and carries the network the company brands as its Industrial Internet Backbone. In older registry and BGP records the same ASN appears as China Netcom Backbone, a legacy of the China Netcom / China Unicom merger: this is one of the ASNs Unicom inherited from the northern Netcom half of the business.

What it's used for

RIS sees 225 IPv4 prefixes covering 733,184 addresses, plus a substantial 144 IPv6 prefixes out of Unicom's 2408::/20 block. The IPv4 space is the giveaway as to its lineage — large aggregates like 210.83.0.0/16, 210.53.0.0/16, 218.105.0.0/16 and 210.51.0.0/16, sitting in the same 210.x / 218.x ranges as the rest of the old Netcom estate. That is a lot of address space by any measure, but it is announced across only 25 observed neighbours. That combination — heavy address holdings, very few BGP adjacencies — says this is not a peering-hungry transit business selling to the open market. It is an internal Unicom backbone whose reachability is inherited from the parent group's much larger transit ASes rather than earned through its own interconnection.

• Distinct from China Unicom's main international backbone [AS4837](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS4837) and from Unicom's other regional ASNs. Describe the network in front of you: AS9929 is the smaller, separately routed Industrial Internet estate, not the mass-market Unicom eyeball network.
• Strong IPv6 build-out relative to its IPv4 footprint — 144 v6 prefixes is unusual for a network of this size and reflects China's state-driven IPv6 deployment push.
• It is a member of the AS-CNCGROUP peering set, the AS-SET that still carries the China Netcom name.
