AS9875 PESAT1-AS-AP PT. Pasifik Satelit Nusantara

AS9875 (PESAT1-AS-AP) is held by PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), an Indonesian satellite telecommunications operator. PSN owns and operates its own satellites and sells transponder capacity, VSAT connectivity, cellular backhaul and satellite broadband across the Indonesian archipelago.

What it's used for

This is the AS through which PSN's satellite customers reach the internet. RIS sees 85 IPv4 prefixes carrying 26,368 addresses, 6 IPv6 prefixes, and only 5 observed BGP neighbours. That combination is the signature of an access network rather than a carrier: it buys transit from a small number of upstreams and distributes the addresses it holds to end customers. The address space itself is telling — it is almost entirely small blocks (/22s, /23s and /24s) out of the recent APNIC 103.x ranges alongside older 202.x space, with no single large aggregate. A satellite operator serving thousands of geographically scattered VSAT terminals, remote-village broadband sites and backhaul links has no reason to hold contiguous space, and every reason to accumulate it in small pieces as customer count grows.

• Indonesia is an archipelago of thousands of islands, which makes satellite a structural part of the country's connectivity rather than a niche: PSN's role is reaching places terrestrial fibre and mobile backhaul do not.
• The customer mix behind this AS is not uniform — the same AS can front a rural community broadband terminal, an enterprise VSAT site and a mobile operator's backhaul circuit, so geolocation of individual addresses within it is inherently coarse.
• IPv6 is present but small: six /48-scale announcements under 2001:f20::.
