AS9506 SINGTEL-FIBRE Singtel Fibre Broadband

AS9506 (SINGTEL-FIBRE) is held by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) and carries its consumer fibre broadband service. Unlike Singtel's international backbone or enterprise ASes, this one exists for a single purpose: terminating residential subscribers in Singapore.

What it's used for

Every piece of evidence lines up on an eyeball access network. AS9506 announces 80 IPv4 prefixes covering roughly 983,040 addresses — close to a million — much of it in big contiguous blocks like 116.14.0.0/15, 121.6.0.0/16, 219.74.0.0/16 and 42.60.0.0/16. Alongside that sit 283 IPv6 prefixes out of Singtel's 2400:d801::/32 and 2400:d802:: space, which is the fingerprint of an ISP handing out per-customer IPv6 delegations at scale.

The neighbour count is the confirming signal, and it works in the opposite direction from a carrier's. Only about 2 BGP neighbours are observed. A transit provider holding a million addresses would peer with hundreds of networks; this AS reaches the world through Singtel's own upstream ASes and does nothing else. That is exactly how a large operator structures a dedicated access AS.

Reverse DNS closes the case. Sampled addresses across the announced ranges resolve to generated names of the form bb116-14-0-5.singnet.com.sg — the bb prefix denoting broadband, under SingNet, Singtel's consumer ISP brand. This is subscriber space.

Notable

• Traffic originating here is residential end users, so it should be treated as consumer eyeball space for geolocation, abuse and rate-limiting purposes.
• The IPv6 footprint is far broader than the IPv4 one in prefix count, reflecting per-subscriber delegations rather than a shared pool.
• Singtel operates several separate ASes; this is the retail broadband one, not the international carrier network.
