AS8902 IFB Internet For Business Limited

IFB is Internet For Business, an Aberdeen ISP founded in 1995 that served the

north-east Scotland business market, notably the oil-and-gas sector. It went into

administration in February 2025 and was bought by **Converged Communication

Solutions (CCS)**; the RIPE holder is now IFB CCS Connectivity Limited.

What it's used for

• Business internet access, colocation and managed IT for corporate customers, concentrated on Aberdeen and the surrounding region.
• Sampled rDNS shows fixed customer assignments (80-76-112-1.ifb.co.uk) and the operator's own core routers (loop0.rtr-01.core.abz2.ifb.net — abz is the IATA code for Aberdeen). No dynamic, DSL or PPPoE naming appears in the sample.

Notable

• About 15.6k IPv4 addresses across 5 prefixes plus one IPv6 prefix, with roughly 58 observed BGP neighbours — small in address terms but genuinely multi-homed and peered, as an independent regional ISP has to be.
• The anchor block is a legacy 194.105.160.0/19 seen in the routing table since at least 2000.

Interesting

• The acquisition merged Aberdeen's two largest ISPs. The handle IFB survives on the AS and in the rDNS, so addresses here still identify as ifb.co.uk / ifb.net even though the operating company is now CCS — a reminder that a handle outlives the company that registered it.
