AS8888 XTOM xTom Pty Ltd

AS8888 is the APAC network of xTom, a hosting group whose Australian entity xTom Pty Ltd holds the AS. xTom sells VPS (the V.PS brand), unmetered dedicated servers, colocation, IP transit, CDN and anycast/BGP hosting, out of data centres in Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, San Jose and several European cities.

What it's used for

Server hosting and BGP/anycast customer space. The AS announces about 16,600 IPv4 addresses in 65 prefixes — almost all /24s — alongside 43 IPv6 prefixes. The sampled reverse DNS is uniformly first-party server naming:

• IP-ADDR.static.xtom.com across the company's own blocks.
• sNNNNN.vps.hosting and IP-ADDR.static.vps.hosting on VPS space.

There is no subscriber naming anywhere. Every host in evidence is a server.

Notable

• 274 observed BGP neighbours against only ~16,600 addresses. That ratio would normally point at a transit carrier, and xTom does sell IP transit — but the peering count is mostly explained by its stated presence at 2,000+ internet exchanges. It is an extremely well-peered host, not a wholesale backbone.
• Many small scattered /24s from post-exhaustion ranges (45.x, 96.9.x, 185.x, 193.x, 103.x) look at first glance like the address-broker silhouette. They are not: the blocks carry xTom's own reverse DNS and resolve to xTom-branded infrastructure. The discriminator is first-party rDNS, and it is present throughout.
• xTom runs several ASNs; this one is its Asia-Pacific network, which is why the location here is best read as Global rather than Australia.
