TELEZUG is WWZ Telekom AG, the telecom arm of Wasserwerke Zug — the municipal utility of the Swiss canton of Zug. It is one of Switzerland's larger cable-network operators and a partner in the Quickline association, selling Internet, TV and telephony to households and businesses in Zug and the neighbouring cantons under the long-running DataZug brand.

What it's used for

Residential and business access over a hybrid fibre-coax plant. The reverse DNS is unambiguous: sampled addresses in 82.136.64.0/18 resolve to pub082136064100.dh-hfc.datazug.ch — a dynamic-host (dh) pool on the HFC cable network, with the subscriber's address encoded in the hostname. Another sample lands on hsrp-50-dzpr210-211-zg.datazug.net, an HSRP router-redundancy interface on a Zug aggregation router. Subscriber pools plus the routers that serve them.

• Roughly 108k IPv4 addresses across only nine prefixes, plus IPv6 — a compact allocation for a network covering several cantons.
• 143 observed BGP neighbours is unusually high for an operator this size. That reflects Swiss peering density and the Quickline partner interconnects rather than a wholesale transit business; the address space itself is eyeball space.

Interesting

A water and electricity utility that became a serious ISP is a distinctly European pattern: the municipal works already owned the trenches, so laying coax — and later fibre — alongside the mains was the cheap move. The datazug.ch domain has carried Zug's Internet since the 1990s, and the AS has been visible in BGP since at least August 2000.
