AS8820 TAL-DE Tal.de GmbH

TAL-DE is TAL.DE GmbH of Wuppertal, a German ISP and data-centre operator running since 1996 (originally as KDT, renamed tal.de in 2002). It operates two on-site data centres in Wuppertal with a private backbone linking Wuppertal, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt, and was acquired by the Riedel group.

What it's used for

Colocation, cloud, web hosting and business connectivity for customers in the Bergisches Land region. The reverse DNS reflects exactly that split: one sampled address is kvm.tal.de — the operator's own virtualisation infrastructure — while another is mail.schick-bau.de, the mail server of a customer construction firm. Provider-owned infra plus named business customers on provider-announced space is the signature of a regional hosting and business-ISP mix, not an eyeball network.

Notable

• A broad and untidy inventory: 195.8.224.0/19, 212.17.240.0/20, 212.60.128.0/20, 81.92.0.0/20, 213.240.176.0/20 and a scatter of stray /24s. This looks superficially like an address-leasing shape, but the blocks are old contiguous German allocations with first-party rDNS on the operator's own hosts — consistent with an ISP that has absorbed smaller regional providers over three decades.
• No consumer subscriber-pool naming (dsl-, pppoe-, dyn-) appears in the sampled reverse DNS.

Interesting

The company name is a pun that only works in German: Wuppertal sits in a valley (Tal), and .de is the country's TLD — so the ISP for the valley is literally tal.de.
