AS8728 Infonet

Infonet AS (Infonet) — an Estonian internet provider operating in Tallinn since

1993, running the Saturn cable and optical access network. Around 52,000 IPv4

addresses and an IPv6 /32, with dozens of BGP neighbours.

What it's used for

• Consumer broadband, digital TV and telephony over DOCSIS cable and fibre. The rDNS is unambiguous eyeball naming: dhcp-IP-ADDR.cable.infonet.ee on the cable plant and sa-IP-ADDR.saturn.infonet.ee on the Saturn optical network, address after address across whole /18s.
• A smaller hosting and colocation business — virtual servers, domains, and named customer hosts turning up in the same space.
• One /21 carries hostNNN.linktelecom.ee naming, from Link Telecom, another Estonian operator whose space is routed here.

Notable

• The AS in "AS Infonet" is not an autonomous system. It is the Estonian aktsiaselts, the equivalent of a public limited company, and it prefixes the name rather than following it. The AS number happens to be AS8728.
• A rare case where the eyeball reading is simply correct: the operator markets itself as a cable/DSL ISP and the address space is wall-to-wall DHCP subscriber pools to match.
