SpainWISP, S.L. (SPAINWISP) — a Spanish network operator based in Murcia that

sells IP transit and carrier services, with wireless ISPs and small regional

providers as its customer base.

What it's used for

• Transit and interconnection rather than end-user access. Its own address space is tiny (about 1,024 addresses across four 5.180.228.0/24-style blocks) and the rDNS on it is pure infrastructure: core.madrid.spainwisp.com and core.valencia.spainwisp.com router interfaces, plus Google Global Cache nodes at Interxion Madrid (google.ggc.spainwisp-peer.interxion.mad…).
• Customers ride their own address space behind it, which is why the AS shows a dozen downstream networks while announcing almost nothing itself.

Notable

• The ratio is the whole story: a few hundred addresses, but well over a hundred observed BGP neighbours and multiple upstreams (Lumen, Telia, Cogent). That is the shape of a transit reseller and peering aggregator, not of an eyeball network.
• Despite the WISP in the name, there are no subscriber pools here. The wireless ISPs are its customers, not its addressing.

Interesting

• Hosting Google cache nodes inside its own /24 is a small operator's way of cutting transit cost: the traffic that would otherwise be bought from a Tier 1 is served locally from Madrid instead.
