TISCALI-IT — Tiscali Italia S.p.A., the Italian internet provider founded

in Cagliari, Sardinia in 1998. This is Tiscali's main consumer access network.

What it's used for

• Mass-market broadband and mobile for Italian households. Roughly half a million IPv4 addresses across 20 prefixes, including several full /16s and a /15 — the shape of an incumbent-scale eyeball network.
• The rDNS says exactly what the space carries, and the labels are unusually self-documenting: dynamic-adsl-IP-DASHED.clienti.tiscali.it for DSL subscribers, ppp-IP-DASHED.dialup.tiscali.it for the legacy dial-up pools, static-IP-DASHED.clienti.tiscali.it for fixed-address customers, and IP-DASHED.client-mvno.tiscali.it for Tiscali's mobile virtual network.
• Backbone routers are named in the old Cisco style (c7206IBGP-MI for Milan, GWC206-CA for Cagliari) under net.tiscali.it.

Notable

• A genuine eyeball network, and the inventory backs the marketing for once — dynamic subscriber pools dominate, exactly as a consumer ISP should look.
• The dialup zone is still delegated and still answers. Tiscali grew out of the dial-up era and the naming was never cleaned up.

Interesting

• Tiscali once ran a pan-European group with operations across half a dozen countries. That empire was sold off piece by piece through the 2000s, leaving the Italian business, and its legacy AS number, behind in Sardinia.
