The registry holder of AS8592 is a commercial entity — Research and Production

Firm "IMT-Center" OOO — but the network it carries is MSUnet, the Moscow

State University network. The announced 212.16.0.0/19 is maintained under

MSUNET-MNT and its reverse DNS lands in msu.net.

What it's used for

• University and research connectivity in Moscow. The two sampled addresses at the head of the block resolve to ns.msu.net and laima.msu.net — the network's own name servers, not subscriber addressing.
• About 8,200 IPv4 addresses, all in the single 212.16.0.0/19 block, plus one IPv6 prefix.

Notable

• A case where the holder's name and the network's identity diverge: a research and production firm on paper, a university network in the routing table. Classified on what the space carries, not on the legal entity's name.
• Only four observed BGP neighbours — a leaf network buying transit.
• The AS has been visible in BGP since at least 2000, and the /19 was registered in 1998, consistent with an early Russian academic allocation. The prefix first seen from this origin in the RIS archive (194.85.200.0/21) is no longer announced here; the current inventory is the /19 alone.
