AS8559 WELLCOM Kabelplus GmbH vormals B.netWellcom

WELLCOM is held by kabelplus GmbH, a subsidiary of the Austrian utility EVN AG and the largest cable and multimedia operator in Lower Austria and Burgenland. The handle preserves an absorbed brand: kabelplus was formed in 2012 out of the merger of kabelsignal and B.net, and the Wellcom name it once traded under is still the AS's registry label.

What it's used for

Consumer broadband over cable and fibre. The reverse DNS on the announced 141.98.176.0/22 is explicit about it: h141.98.176.001.dyn.cm.kabsi.at and h141.98.176.100.dyn.cm.kabsi.at — dyn for dynamic assignment, cm for cable modem, under kabsi.at, the operator's long-running ISP domain (from the old Kabsi / kabelsignal brand). Those are subscriber addresses, one hostname generated per IP.

Only about 1,024 addresses appear under this origin, with a single observed BGP neighbour. The group's main network is the neighbouring AS8339 (KABSI-AS), also kabelplus; this AS carries a small slice of the same eyeball estate.

Notable

• Two kabelplus ASNs, two absorbed brands: KABSI-AS (AS8339) from kabelsignal and WELLCOM (AS8559) from B.net/Wellcom. Both are the same company today.
• The dyn.cm label is a rare case of rDNS naming both the assignment method and the access technology, which makes the residential call unusually clean.
