AS8485 TEST-ASN2

TEST-ASN2 is registered to JSC TransTeleCom (TTK), the Russian long-haul

carrier built along the national railway network. As the handle says, it is a

test AS rather than a production network.

What it's used for

• Announcing a single IPv6 /48 and nothing else. It carries zero IPv4 space, has one BGP neighbour, and serves no customers.
• The routing policy in the RIPE object points only at another TransTeleCom AS, and the registered contacts are the carrier's IPv6 team — consistent with an IPv6 test and lab registration.

Notable

• This AS should not be classified or geolocated as if it were TTK's backbone. It carries none of the carrier's traffic and none of its address space.
• Attributing a parent's kind to an ancillary AS like this one is a common mistake: TTK's real network sits behind other AS numbers.

Interesting

• The RIPE object's created: field is the 1970-01-01 placeholder used for records that predate the database, so the number itself is genuinely old even though its current use is a test registration.
