AS8388 DOLNET

DOLNET was the network of DOL, the Lambrakis Press Organisation, once the

dominant Greek publishing group behind the newspapers Ta Nea and To Vima and

the in.gr portal. The AS and its address space are now registered to **Alter Ego

Media S.A.**, the Athens media company that acquired the group's titles.

What it's used for

• A media company's own network: editorial and publishing systems, corporate IT, and the group's web properties and broadcast operations in Athens.
• Announcing about a dozen prefixes, roughly 4,000 addresses, out of legacy provider-independent blocks in 193.218.84.0 and 194.63.240.0 space, both still netnamed DOLNET.

Notable

• An enterprise network, not a service provider. Despite the size of the media brands behind it, the routed footprint is small and there are no subscriber pools. No reverse DNS is published across the space.
• The address blocks are provider-independent legacy assignments with the RIPE placeholder creation date used for objects that predate the database, which matches an organisation that was online early because it ran one of Greece's first big web portals.

Interesting

• The handle outlived its holder, which is the normal pattern. DOL collapsed financially and its assets were auctioned; the titles, and with them the AS and the address space, passed to Alter Ego Media. Routing data still says DOLNET, a company that no longer exists.
