AS8267 CYFRONET-AS Metropolitan Area Network Autonomous System

CYFRONET-AS belongs to the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH at the AGH

University of Science and Technology in Kraków. Cyfronet operates the Kraków

metropolitan academic network (the Kraków MAN) and is one of Poland's national

high-performance computing centres.

What it's used for

• Serving the universities, institutes and schools connected to the Kraków MAN, and Cyfronet's own supercomputing and research infrastructure.
• The bulk of the space is the classic academic 149.156.0.0/16, alongside 195.150.224.0/19 and 193.193.64.0/21.
• Reverse DNS confirms the shape: campus hosts under cyfro.net, and connected institutions carrying their own academic domains, for example static-10.pwsztar.edu.pl for a state higher school in Tarnów.

Notable

• Institutional, not consumer. Addresses here belong to universities, research institutes and HPC systems, plus student and staff campus networks. There are no dynamic subscriber pools.
• The AS is an aggregator: a chunk of the space is not Cyfronet's own machines but the connected member institutions, so an address in the /16 may belong to any of several Kraków-area organisations.
• The Metropolitan Area Network in the AS description is literal — this is a city-scale academic network, the Polish MAN model, not a single campus.
