AS7633 SOFTNET-AS-AP Software Technology Parks of India - Bangalore

SOFTNET-AS-AP is Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society under India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. STPI was set up in 1991 to promote software exports, and it runs its own network, SOFTNET, as the ISP for the companies inside its parks.

What it's used for

• Internet and datacom service to the IT and ITES firms that occupy STPI centres. The AS is registered to the Bangalore centre but its ~240 prefixes carry space assigned to STPI locations across the country: 164.164.0.0/16 is STPI-Bangalore, 196.12.32.0/19 is STPI-Hyderabad, 203.129.224.0/19 is STPI Pune, and so on.
• Roughly 79,000 IPv4 addresses plus a substantial IPv6 inventory under 2402:ef02::/32 and 2402:ef2f::/32.

Notable

• This is business address space, not consumer space. The holder is a government body, but the addresses in front of it are the software-export companies that rent space in the parks, so an address here is far more likely to be a corporate office or a company server than a home user.
• There is little reverse DNS across the inventory, which is normal for a wholesale provider that hands blocks to tenant organisations and lets them run their own naming.

Interesting

• 196.12.32.0/19 sits inside a /8 that is otherwise AFRINIC's, but it is a genuine legacy Indian assignment maintained by IRINN. Anything that infers a country from the /8 alone will place STPI Hyderabad in Africa.
