after the IRD group joined the GMO Internet Group in early 2025. It is a B2B

infrastructure provider, not a retail ISP.

What it's used for

• IP transit and BGP connectivity for business customers.
• Hosting and system operation out of its own data-centre footprint — the rDNS shows hosting-gate.netird.ad.jp alongside backbone gateways (bb-gate.netird.ad.jp, otemachi-fastethernet-gate.netird.ad.jp, named for Tokyo's Otemachi carrier hotel).
• Large-scale corporate email delivery, its long-standing speciality.

Notable

• Customer networks are visible in the reverse DNS rather than subscriber pools: hosts resolve to third-party domains such as a Kyoto education body's servers and assorted corporate sites. That is the shape of a hosting/transit provider carrying customers, not an eyeball network.
• It also announces part of the 202.79.0.0/20 block registered to Kansai Broadband Corp. of Kobe; the rest of that /20 is announced by [AS7511](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS7511) (SYNAPSE). Do not read either AS's geography from that block alone.

Interesting

• "IRD" comes from the group's intellectual-property/rights-management software business, which is why a company that mainly sells transit and mail delivery has a name that says nothing about either.
