one of the ASNs inherited from XO Communications, the national business

carrier Verizon acquired.

What it's used for

• Originating a handful of prefixes on behalf of XO's business customers. The blocks are ARIN reassignments to end-user companies — a marine towing firm, a contact-centre operator, an analytics company — plus legacy Allegiance Telecom (ALGX) space now held by Verizon.
• Reverse DNS on the space that has any resolves to XO's generic …ptr.us.xo.net pattern.

Notable

• A business/enterprise AS, not an eyeball one: the addresses land on corporate sites and customer edge routers rather than home broadband.
• XO's main network is [AS2828](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS2828); AS7014 is a much smaller sibling that survived the merger with its old handle intact.

Interesting

• The handle is a fossil twice over — XO-AS7014 still names a company that no longer exists, and some of the address blocks under it name a company (Allegiance Telecom) that XO itself absorbed years before Verizon absorbed XO.
