AS6881 NIXCZ NIX.CZ z.s.p.o.

NIXCZ is the autonomous system of NIX.CZ z.s.p.o., the neutral internet

exchange point of the Czech Republic, based in Prague.

What it's used for

• Operating the exchange's own infrastructure: route servers, management and monitoring systems, and the association's public-facing services. Reverse DNS on the announced space resolves under nix.cz.
• The exchange itself is a layer-2 fabric. Traffic between members crosses the IXP without transiting this ASN, so the AS number is not a good proxy for the volume of traffic NIX.CZ actually carries.

Notable

• An IXP does not fit the usual hosting/ISP/enterprise buckets. It is neutral interconnection infrastructure, and its address space exists mostly to number peering LANs and support systems rather than to serve end users or customers.
• NIX.CZ is a membership association (z.s.p.o. is the Czech legal form for an association of legal entities), not a commercial carrier.

Interesting

• Alongside the peering fabric, NIX.CZ has run national initiatives such as anti-DDoS protection and secure networking services for critical Czech infrastructure, which is a broader remit than most exchanges take on.
