AS6870 SPACE-IX

SPACE-IX is registered to RECONN LLC, a Moscow-based internet service provider

and RIPE local internet registry. Despite the -IX suffix in the handle, this is

not one of Russia's recognised public internet exchanges.

What it's used for

• A single announced /24, whose reverse DNS resolves under reconn.ru. The addresses look like operator infrastructure rather than a customer pool.
• The RIPE aut-num object carries an IX members remarks block, suggesting the AS is used for peering arrangements alongside RECONN's main network.

Notable

• RECONN LLC also holds a separate, larger autonomous system for its main ISP operations; AS6870 is the smaller of the two and carries only 256 addresses.
• The SPACE-IX name is a good example of why an AS handle should never be taken at face value. Searching Russia's published exchange-point lists turns up no such exchange, and the network's own reverse DNS points squarely at RECONN.
