AS6849 UKRTELNET

UKRTELNET is the main network of JSC "Ukrtelecom", Ukraine's incumbent fixed-line telecommunications operator, headquartered in Kyiv.

What it's used for

• Mass-market fixed broadband. This is Ukrtelecom's eyeball network: subscriber addresses resolve into pool.ukrtel.net, and RIPE registers blocks under netnames such as UKRTELNET-ADSL.
• The footprint is national and large, several hundred IPv4 prefixes and roughly 600k addresses, deaggregated down to /24s across the country.

Notable

• The single most consumer-facing ASN in this range. Address space here is residential access, not data-centre or transit space.
• Ukrtelecom is the successor of the state telephone monopoly and still carries the legacy copper/ADSL plant alongside newer access. It has kept operating through wartime infrastructure damage.

Interesting

• Ukrtelecom holds other autonomous systems for other roles; this one is specifically the access network. Do not attribute the group's backbone or corporate functions to UKRTELNET.
