ICENET-AS1 is registered to Míla hf, the company that operates Iceland's

national telecommunications trunk and access network from Reykjavík.

What it's used for

• Iceland's backbone and access network: the fibre ring that circles the country roughly along Route 1, plus the copper and FTTH access networks that ride it.
• Announces around 138k IPv4 addresses. Much of the space is subscriber-facing: reverse DNS across the larger ranges resolves to dynamic and static DSL pools under simnet.is, alongside named Icelandic business customers.

Notable

• Míla was split out of the incumbent Síminn in 2007 as a separate network company — the same structural idea as Openreach being split from BT — and was sold to the French investment firm Ardian in 2022.
• The simnet.is reverse DNS is a legacy of that history: the AS carries consumer broadband pools associated with the incumbent's retail brand even though the AS itself now belongs to the infrastructure company.

Interesting

• Míla's wholesale model means it sits underneath most Icelandic ISPs rather than competing with them, which makes AS6677 one of the most structurally central networks in the country despite Iceland's small population.
