CWASIA is the former Cable & Wireless Asia-Pacific network, now held by

Vodafone Enterprise Equipment Limited following Vodafone's acquisition of Cable

& Wireless Worldwide in 2012. The RIPE registration lists a Leeds, UK address

and Vodafone's network-control contacts.

What it's used for

• Managed enterprise connectivity — IP-VPN, internet access and managed WAN for multinational corporate customers, with a centre of gravity in Asia.
• Announces a mix of RIPE, APNIC and ARIN blocks, including customer ranges in the Philippines and Europe. Router reverse DNS still resolves under cwasia.net, with Hong Kong (hkg) among the named sites.

Notable

• This is a corporate/enterprise-services network rather than an eyeball ISP or a hosting platform. Its address space sits at enterprise customer sites and on provider-edge routers.
• The CWASIA handle is a fossil: the brand has been gone for over a decade, but the AS number, the handle and the cwasia.net reverse DNS all survive.

Interesting

• Cable & Wireless traces back to the 19th-century submarine telegraph business, and its network assets have been split and resold repeatedly — the Asia arm to Vodafone, the Caribbean/Latin America arm elsewhere. Routing data is often the last place these corporate lineages remain visible.
