AS5387 NSC

NSC is the network of the Novosibirsk Scientific Center in Akademgorodok, the

academic town of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The RIPE

object still carries its original description, the *Akademgorodok Internet

Project*.

What it's used for

• Connectivity for the research institutes, computing centres, and university facilities clustered in Akademgorodok, on the southern edge of Novosibirsk.
• Peering at NSK-IX, the Novosibirsk internet exchange, alongside upstream transit.

Notable

• An academic network. Its address space serves institutes and their staff rather than commercial subscribers.
• The registration has passed to a limited company operating the network, but the routing policy and the institutional customer base still reflect its origins in the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences.

Interesting

• The RIPE object credits the International Science Foundation alongside the Academy, a reminder that several Russian academic networks were first brought online in the 1990s with outside scientific funding.
