NET-CPRK is held by Speedcast Communications, Inc, a remote-communications provider based in Houston, Texas. The handle preserves the name of CapRock Communications, the satellite communications company whose network this originally was.

What it's used for

• Carries connectivity for remote sites that terrestrial networks do not reach: offshore energy platforms, vessels, mining and other isolated operations served over satellite.
• The address space is assigned to customer sites and terminals rather than to residential subscribers, so it reads as enterprise remote connectivity rather than an eyeball network.

Notable

• The CPRK handle is a fossil. CapRock passed to Harris and then to Speedcast, but the registry handle never changed. This is a good example of a handle outliving its original holder.
• Unlike most of its numeric neighbours, this ASN's ARIN registration dates to the mid-1990s and has stayed within the same network lineage rather than being reclaimed and reissued.
