AS8896 XFIBER-AS

XFIBER-AS is the network of Xfiber, a Stavanger-founded (1995) Norwegian fibre

operator selling low-latency internet and managed connectivity to the business

market. It was bought by Broadnet in 2016; Broadnet became GlobalConnect, and Xfiber

was folded fully into GlobalConnect from January 2024. The AS is still registered

under the Xfiber handle, with GLOBALCONNECT AS as the holder.

What it's used for

• Business internet access and enterprise network services across Norway and the wider Nordics, plus transit for system integrators and smaller operators.
• Every sampled PTR follows one pattern: 1.185-15-216.static.xfiber.net, 100.45-138-238.static.xfiber.net. The static zone is the tell — these are fixed business assignments, not dynamic consumer pools. There is no dsl, pppoe or dyn naming anywhere in the sample.

Notable

• Around 27k IPv4 addresses over 19 prefixes, 7 IPv6 prefixes, and roughly 48 observed BGP neighbours — a well-peered mid-size carrier rather than a mass-market eyeball network.
• PoPs are listed at Stavanger, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen and London.

Interesting

• The AS in "GlobalConnect AS" is Norwegian aksjeselskap (a limited company), not "autonomous system" — a coincidence that reads oddly in the holder string.
