MIDRIVERS is Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative, trading as Mid-Rivers Communications — a member-owned rural telco founded in 1952, headquartered in Circle, Montana, serving the sparsely populated eastern half of the state with internet, voice and video.

What it's used for

Subscriber access across a rural footprint. RIS sees seven IPv4 prefixes carrying 28,672 addresses plus one IPv6 /32 (2607:8380::/32), with 13 observed neighbours. Every sampled address answers as a generated per-address PTR under midrivers.com — 72-250-128-5.midrivers.com and so on — which is how a co-op names its customer pools. Address space, naming and neighbour count all point the same way: an eyeball network, not a carrier.

Notable

The inventory is unusually clean. All seven prefixes are registered to Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative, Inc itself, and the netnames read like a build history rather than a set of unrelated third parties: MIDRIV, MDRV, CM-MILES, EXPANSION2 and EXPANSIONFIBER — plausibly a cable-modem block for Miles City, one of the co-op's regional offices, alongside successive fibre build-outs. Self-registered prefixes with first-party rDNS on every one of them is the definitive exoneration — this is a real operator running its own space, however piecemeal the blocks look.

Interesting

Thirteen neighbours is a lot for a co-op of this size, and it reflects geography rather than ambition: covering thousands of square miles of eastern Montana means interconnecting wherever fibre reaches, so a rural network can end up better-connected at the edges than its subscriber count would suggest.
