PDM is Parsec Data Management Inc., a commercial data centre and managed

services provider in Billings, Montana. The AS carries its colocation, cloud, and

IaaS customers.

What it's used for

• Hosting: colocation, virtual infrastructure, disaster recovery, and managed services (firewalls, intrusion prevention) out of a single Montana facility. RIS sees 11 announced IPv4 prefixes totalling 2,560 addresses, one IPv6 prefix (2602:fff3::/36), and 4 observed BGP neighbours.
• The four neighbours matter. A hosting company that is also a transit business would peer widely; Parsec peers with a handful of upstreams, so the AS exists to give the data centre its own multihomed, provider-independent presence rather than to sell transit onward.

• Every sampled address answers under parsecdata.com, in the plain 162-253-12-5.parsecdata.com machine-generated form, with one host standing out as cloudadmin.parsecdata.com. First-party reverse DNS across the whole inventory is the strongest available evidence that the holder actually operates this space rather than leasing it out, and it is what separates a real hosting operator from an AS number wrapped around somebody else's addresses.
• The prefix registrants agree: all of them resolve to Parsec Data Management under handles like PDM-BLNGMT-A1, -A2, -A3. Those handles are simply the company's Billings, MT allocations, numbered in order of acquisition.

Interesting

• The inventory is a scatter of /22s and /24s across 162.218.100.0/22, 162.253.12.0/22, 192.103.12.0/24 and 208.38.220.0/24, announced both as aggregates and as component /24s. That shape is normal for a small operator that grew by picking up blocks as they became available, and it is not by itself a leasing signal when every block is self-registered and self-named in DNS.
