AS11195 COHO-ASN

COHO-ASN is Whiz to Coho, Inc., an independent internet provider in Hillsboro, Oregon, trading as Coho. It has served the western Portland suburbs — Hillsboro, Beaverton, Forest Grove, North Plains and the surrounding rural west hills — since the mid-1990s, selling fixed-wireless and fibre access alongside hosting and colocation.

What it's used for

Local internet access, with a hosting sideline. RIS observes three IPv4 prefixes — 76.9.240.0/20, 208.67.200.0/21 and 76.9.255.0/24, about 6,144 addresses — plus one IPv6 prefix, 2620:34:e000::/48. Five BGP neighbours is a healthy number of upstreams for a small regional ISP and nowhere near carrier territory.

All three v4 prefixes are registered to the company's own ARIN block (WHIZ-TO-COHO-INC), and the reverse DNS is entirely first-party: host5-76.9.240.whiztocoho.net, host133-76.9.255.whiztocoho.net and 208-67-200-5.coho.net. Self-registered space with self-operated rDNS across the whole announced footprint — a real operator, not a shell fronting leased address space.

Notable

Two brand names, one network: the corporate identity (whiztocoho.net) and the customer-facing one (coho.net) both appear in the rDNS, split cleanly along prefix boundaries.

The PTR names are generic host<n>-<prefix> templates that do not distinguish subscriber lines from hosted servers, so the exact mix of access versus colocation traffic cannot be read out of the routing data alone.

Interesting

The IPv6 allocation is a 2620::/23 block — ARIN direct-assignment space, not a downstream slice from an upstream carrier.
