WOLFRAM-AS is the corporate autonomous system of Wolfram Research, Inc., the Champaign, Illinois software company behind Mathematica, the Wolfram Language, and Wolfram Alpha. It is a single-company enterprise network, not a service provider.

What it's used for

The AS carries Wolfram's own infrastructure and nothing else. RIS sees just 2 announced IPv4 prefixes totalling 12,288 addresses and no IPv6, all of it inside one contiguous block: 140.177.32.0/19 and 140.177.0.0/20. Both prefixes are registered to WRI-NET — the holder's own ARIN network object — so the address space and the AS that announces it belong to the same organisation. There is no sign of third-party or leased space here.

The routing shape matches the ownership. RIS observes one BGP neighbour, which is what a single-homed (or effectively single-upstream) corporate site looks like. A carrier of comparable address size would peer with dozens to hundreds of ASes; an enterprise announcing its own campus space peers with its transit provider and stops there.

Notable

The address count is larger than a typical office network because Wolfram runs public-facing compute — Wolfram Alpha and the Wolfram Cloud are answer-on-demand services, not brochure sites — alongside internal engineering and build infrastructure. That is still enterprise use: the space serves one company's products, not tenants.

The two prefixes are adjacent within 140.177.0.0/16, so this reads as one allocation announced in two pieces rather than an accumulation of unrelated blocks — another mark of a network that grew inside a single organisation.
