CCINET is Consolidated Communications, a US local exchange carrier and broadband provider that now markets its consumer fiber service under the Fidium brand.

What it's used for

• Fixed broadband for homes and small businesses across Consolidated's incumbent-telco territories, most visibly its northern New England fiber build.
• Business data services and voice on the same carrier backbone.

Notable

• An "eyeball" network: most addresses here terminate on subscriber routers rather than servers, so the space is dominated by residential and small-business traffic.
• Consolidated grew largely by acquiring incumbent telephone companies, which is why its address space and territory are geographically scattered rather than contiguous.

Interesting

• The Fidium brand was pushed to the front of the company's identity as it converted copper telephone plant to fiber-to-the-home, a rebrand of the retail face rather than of the underlying network, which still carries the older CCINET handle.
