ARIN now records the holder as Metro Communications Company of Sullivan, Illinois: MCC Network Services LLC (trading as Metro and Conxxus) acquired MTCO effective January 2026, and the ASN's registration record was last changed in March 2026.

What it's used for

Residential and small-business broadband access. MTCO serves Washington, Metamora, Germantown Hills and Marseilles in central Illinois, and it announces seven IPv4 prefixes totalling 23,552 addresses — headed by 207.179.192.0/18 and 72.34.0.0/20 — with no IPv6 seen in RIS.

The evidence for the eyeball role is unusually direct, because the sub-allocation names inside ARIN spell it out. 207.179.192.0/18 is registered as M207-179-192-0-WASHINGTON-GIGACENTER-STATIC-POOL2 and 72.34.0.0/20 as M72-34-0-0-MARSE7-1-DHCP-POOL1 — a static pool named after Washington, IL and a DHCP pool named after Marseilles, IL. A GigaCenter is a Calix residential fiber gateway. These are subscriber address pools named after the towns they serve, not hosting or transit space.

Reverse DNS matches: 207-179-192-5.mtco.net and 72-34-0-5.mtco.net on the core blocks, and *-dynamic.itw-dns.com across the smaller 170.117.164.0/22, 162.252.36.0/22 and 64.239.63.0/24 — the latter carrying an explicit dynamic label, i.e. rotating customer assignments.

Only one observed BGP neighbour. Combined with a five-figure address count and dynamic-pool rDNS, that is a textbook single-homed access network: it buys transit and hands the space to end users. Nothing here resembles a carrier, and nothing resembles the leased-space pattern either — the prefixes are registered to the operator's own pools, not to unrelated third parties.

Interesting

The smaller prefixes sit under different registrant handles and a different rDNS domain from the mtco.net core, the ordinary residue of a rural telco that has absorbed neighbouring exchanges over time — and MTCO has itself now been absorbed in turn.
