AS10971 CASSCOMM

CASSCOMM is Cass Cable TV, Inc., the cable and broadband arm of CASSCOMM, a locally owned telecom group in central Illinois. It is an eyeball network: a regional cable/fibre operator carrying subscriber traffic, not a wholesale carrier.

What it's used for

RIS sees 19 announced IPv4 prefixes covering about 25,856 addresses, one IPv6 prefix (2604:1f00::/32), and 6 observed neighbours. The neighbour count is what a small regional ISP with a couple of transit providers and a few peers looks like; a wholesale carrier of any size would show orders of magnitude more adjacencies.

The reverse DNS settles it. Sampled addresses come back as 24-52-128-5.ip.casscomm.com, 24-245-84-5.ip.casscomm.com and so on: per-IP generated PTRs under the operator's own domain, the standard shape of a residential access pool. One sample carries .static.ip.casscomm.com, which is the usual carve-out for business customers on static addresses, but the bulk of the space is the generic ip. pattern. The address space itself is mostly 24.52.0.0 and 24.245.0.0 blocks, which is classic US cable allocation territory, deaggregated into /20s and /21s per serving area.

CASSCOMM's own service area is described as nine central-Illinois counties across roughly three dozen communities, offering cable TV, fibre internet and phone. The routing footprint is proportionate to that.

• Alongside the ARIN space the AS announces 103.242.192.0/22, an APNIC-range block, with the same first-party ip.casscomm.com rDNS. Post-exhaustion address acquisition means legacy /8 geography is no longer a reliable signal.
• IPv6 is deployed: a full /32 is announced, which is more than many operators of this size manage.
