KWANGWOON-AS-KR is the campus network of Kwangwoon University, a private university in Nowon-gu, Seoul with a long-standing focus on electronics, information technology and engineering.

What it's used for

The AS carries the university's own estate: faculty and administrative networks, student and dormitory access, laboratory and research systems, and the institution's public web presence. Kwangwoon's engineering and electronics departments are the historical heart of the place, and networks like this one typically also carry teaching labs that need routable address space rather than NAT.

This is education, and it is the combination of two figures that proves it rather than either alone. RIS sees 84 IPv4 prefixes carrying 22,016 addresses — a 223.194.0.0/19 plus a very long tail of /24s scattered across 128.134.x, 223.194.x, 114.70.x and 210.207.x — yet only 2 observed neighbours. Eighty-four prefixes would, in a commercial network, imply aggressive traffic engineering across many transits. Here there are two upstreams and nowhere for that engineering to go. The fragmentation is therefore historical, not operational: decades of separate KRNIC assignments announced individually because nobody ever had a reason to aggregate them. That pattern — heavy deaggregation, negligible peering, a five-digit address count for a mid-sized campus — is characteristic of long-established Korean universities.

Interesting

The 128.134.0.0 space is legacy Class B territory handed out before APNIC existed, which places Kwangwoon among Korea's early-connected institutions.
