AS10066 GAYANET-AS-KR LG HelloVision Corp.

GAYANET-AS-KR is held by LG HelloVision Corp., South Korea's largest cable-TV multiple system operator. The GAYANET name is inherited from one of the regional cable system operators the group absorbed as it consolidated — LG HelloVision runs more than twenty SOs across some two dozen franchise areas, clustered around Seoul and Busan, and each brought its own network and address space with it.

What it's used for

Consumer broadband over cable, sold with digital TV and telephone. The AS announces 85 IPv4 prefixes totalling 139,520 addresses and no IPv6, and the composition is unambiguous: page after page of /21s from 110.45.0.0, 115.41.0.0, 119.149.0.0 and 123.199.0.0. Uniform /21s repeated eighty-odd times is subscriber-pool geometry — one block per headend or CMTS — not the ragged, purpose-built layout of an enterprise or the dense mixed sizes of a hosting platform. 139,520 addresses only make sense if there are households on the far end of them.

Notable

An eyeball network, and the neighbour count settles it beyond the name. Nearly 140,000 addresses with exactly one observed BGP neighbour describes a regional access ISP that single-homes into its parent's national backbone and sells transit to nobody. A wholesale carrier holding this much space would show hundreds of adjacencies. LG HelloVision is majority-owned by LG Uplus, one of Korea's three national telcos, which is very likely what that single adjacency is.
