AS10054 CMBKJ-AS-KR CMB Kwangju Broadcasting

CMBKJ-AS-KR is CMB Kwangju Broadcasting, the CMB group's cable system operator for Gwangju and the surrounding towns of South Jeolla. AS10054 is the access network behind its consumer broadband product.

What it's used for

Household internet delivered over a hybrid fibre-coaxial cable plant, sold alongside digital cable TV and bundled phone service. The franchise covers Gwangju Metropolitan City plus Naju, Hwasun, Boseong, Damyang, Hampyeong, Gurye, Gokseong, Jangseong and Yeonggwang. The AS announces 89 IPv4 prefixes totalling 76,800 addresses and no IPv6, and the composition is the tell: dozens of near-identical /22s drawn from 49.246.0.0, 112.121.0.0, 112.133.0.0 and 120.29.0.0. Uniform /22s repeated at that scale are how a cable operator carves subscriber pools per headend and per node, not how an enterprise or a hosting provider lays out address space.

Notable

This is an eyeball network, and the neighbour count is what settles it rather than the name. Roughly 76,800 addresses with only two observed BGP neighbours describes a regional access ISP that buys transit from a national carrier and sells none: a wholesale operator holding comparable space would show hundreds of adjacencies. A broadcaster's content business would not need 300 /24s' worth of addresses at all — the address count only makes sense if there are subscribers on the other end.

Interesting

The IPv4-only posture is notable in a country with otherwise strong IPv6 deployment, and reflects the long tail of Korean cable MSOs still running older HFC plant. Do not confuse this AS with Kwangju Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), the unrelated regional TV broadcaster.
