AS9912 QIS-AS-AP Quality Internet Services

AS9912 (VOCUS-AU) is registered to Vocus Australia, one of the country's larger fibre and network operators. The important thing to understand about this entry is that it is not Vocus's production network. Vocus carries its customers and its transit on other numbers, notably the Vocus Connect international backbone on [AS4826](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS4826) and Vocus Retail on [AS9443](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS9443), each of which announces orders of magnitude more space than this one.

What it's used for

Carrier infrastructure addressing. RIS observes exactly one IPv4 prefix, 203.55.11.0/24 (256 addresses), one IPv6 prefix (2001:de8:17::/48), and one BGP neighbour. The reverse DNS is decisive: sampled addresses resolve as 203-55-11-5.core.vocus.network and 203-55-11-133.core.vocus.network. That is router and link naming, not customer space.

So this is neither a dormant shell nor an eyeball network. It is a small block of core infrastructure announced behind a single upstream inside the Vocus group. The neighbour count settles the role: an AS that sells transit peers with hundreds of others, while this one peers with exactly one, which is what an infrastructure prefix needs in order to be globally reachable without being globally connected.

Notable

• Do not treat this ASN as a proxy for "Vocus" in geolocation or traffic attribution. 256 addresses of core routers will misattribute badly against a carrier with a national footprint.
• The QIS-AS-AP handle is sometimes wrongly attached to this number. That handle is a different resource: it belongs to AS137988, Quality Internet Services Pte. Ltd. of Singapore.
• IPv6 is present despite the tiny v4 footprint, consistent with dual-stacked core routers.
