AS9776 KBSTAR KOOKMIN BANK

AS9776 (KBSTAR-KR) is registered to Kookmin Bank, the retail bank at the centre of KB Financial Group and one of South Korea's largest banks, headquartered in Seoul. KBSTAR is the bank's own brand name for its online banking channel, which is why the handle looks nothing like the corporate name.

What it's used for

This is a corporate enterprise network, not a service provider. RIS sees 10 IPv4 prefixes carrying 2,560 addresses, all of them individual /24s scattered across several unrelated Korean carrier blocks (61.42.246.0/24, 175.124.152.0/24, 59.10.244.0/24, 218.152.189.0/24 and similar). Only 3 BGP neighbours are observed. That combination is the classic signature of a large enterprise multihoming to a small number of domestic transit providers: enough address space to run public-facing banking services, branch connectivity and payment infrastructure, but nowhere near enough to be a network anyone else buys connectivity from. A wholesale carrier with this footprint would show hundreds of adjacencies; three says the AS exists so the bank can hold its own routes across more than one upstream rather than depend on a single ISP's addressing.

• The scattered /24 pattern reflects PA-style assignments taken from multiple Korean ISPs over time and then originated from the bank's own AS, a common arrangement for Korean financial institutions.
