AS9635 PUFS-AS Pusan University of Foreign Studies

AS9635 (PUFS-AS) is registered to the Pusan University of Foreign Studies (부산외국어대학교), a private university in Busan specialising in foreign languages and area studies. It is a campus network, held by the institution for its own use.

What it's used for

The footprint is tiny for a university. RIS sees a single IPv4 prefix, 223.195.222.0/24, carrying 256 addresses, no IPv6, and 2 observed neighbours. A /24 cannot host a whole campus of students and staff on public addresses, so the practical reading is that this AS carries only the university's public surface: its website, mail, library and admissions systems, and whatever it exposes to the outside world. The campus itself will sit behind NAT on private space, or be served through an upstream network that is not announced from this AS.

The two neighbours matter here. A university with one prefix and two upstreams is multi-homing for resilience, which is the only reason a network this small needs an AS number at all. It rules out any transit role outright, and the 256-address count rules out an access or eyeball network. Korean higher education is often connected via national research-and-education networks or commercial carriers, and a small institution keeping a single provider-independent /24 across two of them is a sensible, common arrangement.

223.195.222.0/24 sits in 223/8, one of the later APNIC ranges, so the addressing is considerably newer than the AS number itself. Nothing in the evidence suggests the network has ever grown much beyond this.
